Rongsheng’s First Domestic Ultra-HTHP BOP Stack and Control System Successfully Completes Offshore Platform Integrated Testing

Recently, Rongsheng’s independently developed first domestic 18 3/4’-20000psi ultra-high-temperature, high-pressure BOP stack and high-pressure control system successfully completed integrated testing on the Exploration No. 6 platform in Weihai, Shandong. This marks that the equipment now has the capability to handle extremely complex operating conditions in real field operations, demonstrates Rongsheng’s independent R&D strength in offshore ultra-high-temperature, high-pressure BOPs and control systems, and further advances the localization of equipment for oil and gas exploration and development in offshore ultra-HTHP areas.
This integrated test was carried out under conditions that fully simulated actual drilling operations. It included installation of the BOP, operating platform, and valves, and the complete set of equipment was successfully assembled and connected with the wellhead. In terms of spatial compatibility, lifting and transfer capability, and personnel coordination, the test verified the compatibility of the ultra-HTHP BOP stack with the Exploration No. 6 platform. Through a series of key tests on the functionality and structural reliability of the BOP stack and control system—including a 140 MPa ultra-high-pressure test involving shear blind rams, large-range variable-bore rams, and fixed-bore rams, BOP closing-time verification, monitoring of pressure drop in the main accumulator of the high-pressure control system, HPU pump system testing, and remote-control panel commissioning—the equipment operated stably, sealing performance was reliable, and all performance parameters met the design targets.
For a long time, offshore ultra-high-temperature, high-pressure well-control equipment has been monopolized by a small number of international companies, becoming a key “bottleneck” restricting China’s offshore ultra-HTHP oil and gas exploration. As the core equipment in a complete offshore well-control package, North China Rongsheng’s independently developed 18 3/4’-20000psi ultra-HTHP BOP stack and control system has successively overcome more than 20 key technical challenges. With CCS entrusted to strictly supervise the product design, manufacturing, and testing processes, the product obtained a CCS product certificate and reached an industry-leading standard. North China Rongsheng has also produced 8 technical reports, completed the design and manufacturing of 5 prototype units and test devices, and filed 3 national invention patents. This series of achievements is of great significance for improving the localization rate of China’s major equipment.
The successful integrated testing of this equipment on an offshore platform provides China’s offshore ultra-HTHP oil and gas exploration and development with an independently controllable equipment option, and further breaks the situation in which key core equipment and technical services are constrained by others. North China Rongsheng will accelerate the development of a full product series, promote the engineering application of domestically produced high-end equipment in offshore areas, and contribute to improving the efficiency of China’s oil and gas exploration and development.
